More bogus science reporting given credence presumably because the author likes the narrative. Is this the impact of “Game of Thrones” or maybe Amazon’s “Vikings” at work I wonder?
To start with, out of all the hundreds of found Viking burial sites, the study only covers 13 sites. Plus the clue might be in the title here because “Warriors and women: the sex ratio of Norse migrants to eastern England up to 900 ad” clearly isn’t talking about invading warriors.
But the story linked below sets up the egregious statement I’ve read in ages. But to be clear, the idea of the Viking as raping and pillaging maniacs has already been laid to rest many times over – However it gets a new twist here
“The presence of female warriors also has researchers now wondering just how accurate the stereotypes of raping and pillaging actually are”
Really? Why? Were “shield maidens the proto-feminists of the early middle ages?
“Hacking, killing, maiming is fine – just don’t touch their lady parts Hagar.” – I think not.
