Another country, another oil minister – Anyone see a pattern here? Syria’s deputy oil minister defects

I feel a bit like Jacobim Mugatu, Will Ferrell’s character in Zoolander, when he protestrates  to the crowd about the fact that Zoolanders famous “looks” are all very similar.

Blue Steel? Ferrari? Le Tigra? They’re the same face! Doesn’t anybody notice this? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!

When I heard today that the Syrian junior minister FOR OIL Abdo Hussameldin is defecting to the anti-Assad side, presumably for “moral” (financial) reasons… it all rather struck a cord.

At present the translations are only coming over in drips and drabs, so my link is to his original YouTube video.

Libyan, no Syrian oil guy defects

Hopefully he’ll be looking forward to a nice reward, like the one given to Shokri Ghanem, who defected from Libyan’s ruling elite, and yet managed to keep his cushy new job as chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corporation. Oddly, his other colleagues have not favoured so well.

Here is his defection video. For “moral” grounds, of course.

Syrian, no Libyan guy defects

Have you noticed how, every time an oil rich nation gets destabilised, it’s the oil chairmen / ministers / chiefs who seem to make a sudden “moral” dash to the side that looks like it could win; or rather the side that appears to be getting the most significant backing for outside.
