…and by “curves” we actually mean tits.

I almost feel like I should pre-empt this post with a declaration of preference towards the more curvaceous female form. But that might come over a little apologetic or insincere (it’s not, I likes me a big girl!).

What I actually want this post to be about is the coyness in which mass media flirts with the promotion of sexualisation, only then to back off to avoid the obvious backlash.

The New York Daily News, presumably the sort of paper that finds itself lining litter trays the next day, runs an entertainment story with this pitch.

Christina Hendricks and her curves steal the spotlight at ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’ premiere

Christina Hendricks, there's some real scaffolding going on there.
Christina Hendricks, there's some real scaffolding going on there.

So, given the image they chose, they are using “curves” as a euphemism for large breasts.

The story reads;

It’s easy to see how she does it.Christina Hendricks, 36, stole the show at the New York premiere of her new film, “I Don’t Know How She Does It,” Monday night.

Wearing a pink satin Vivienne Westwood dress that stopped just a bit short of completely covering her famous chest, Hendricks looked stunning and stole the spotlight from some of the most fashionable stars in the world.

And by “famous chest” they are, of course, talking about her large breasts again.

Then we have this handy little titbit (ho-ho)

“Having larger breasts has made it harder for me to shop throughout the years, but I’ve learned to love it.”

Presumably this is to assist in creating an image in the minds of interested parties. You are to imagine Christina at this point, trying on bras.

And just in case you might have wondered…

“It’s so bizarre that people are constantly asking if my breasts are real or fake,” she added. “They’re so obviously real that anyone who’s ever seen or touched a breast would know.”

So, now you can imagine touching them. Thus completing the picture.

But lets be frank about this. Christina Hendricks’s boobs are being given something of a hefty lift, in every sense, and she’s not “curvy” elsewhere. So lets not push the “she’s a real woman” angle too much.

Chloe Marshall
Chloe Marshall is an average UK Size 16 (US 12-14)

For that, you would have to look at Chloe Marshall, who’s UK size 16 figure (US size 12-14) is the exact average for women.

Despite the Wikipedia article, it should be noted that the “unhealthy image” Chloe Marshall actually swims every other day.

Oh, and if you want to moan on about how awesome Christina Hendricks is as an actor, that’s fine.

Just don’t expect I’ll approve any comments regarding anything else about her…. unless it’s funny of course. Then it’s a given it’s going on the blog 🙂
