Osama Bin Laden dead? So just how long does DNA testing take?

Latest Update HERE.

So we are all greeted with the news that Osama Bin Laden has been killed during a raid to capture him. But no worries about identification and what to do with his body, because it was DNA tested (against DNA from his dead sister) and then “buried at sea”.

Just a small matter though, something that should be obvious to anybody who knows the reality outside the world of CSI (whatever). DNA testing doesn’t take 30 seconds in a big machine with lasers. That’s a myth.

But I suspect you might think, how would HE know. So here are some sources for you to look at and make your own mind up.

DNA Worldwide – Forensic DNA Tests offer a 10 to 15 day turn around time.

Cell Mark is a company that specialises in DNA testing, in fact it’s apparently the UK’s most recommended. They say it takes 3-5 DAYS.

All Experts goes into some very helpful detail of forensic DNA testing. 5-10 DAYS.

International Biosciences has a “Rush” service. I contacted them by phone and they tell me it’s 3 days.

Genetic Testing Labs – Fast job service – 3 days.

Genetics Home Reference – (a part of the U.S. National Library of Medicine) says weeks to months

Can it be done quicker?

Now the BBC ran a story in August last year (2010) that a scientist had developed a test that can match DNA in just FOUR HOURS. But the process is labour intensive and required laboratory conditions. Just like a ship, yeah? HOWEVER, it’s use has NOT BEEN APPROVED for use and, as the story reads “Neither the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) CoDIS DNA database, nor the UK National DNA database can currently support rapid DNA testing technology.”

Incidentally, a truly RUSH JOB takes 8 hours. “At the UK’s Forensic Science Service (FSS), urgent samples can be prioritised on request and, once delivered to a lab, can be processed in about eight hours.”

From experience I know this basically means that an individual is assigned to “walk” the sample through the processing in order to get the timeline down. But the current DNA process cannot be rushed any further due the nature (pardon the pun) of how it’s carried out.

UPDATE – Those timings in detail.

The following times are source from the BBC report and AP.

The attack ended at 18.15pm GMT, 23:15 Islamabad, 14:15 Washington time.

The US first news announcement was 02:15 GMT (2nd May) which was 22:15 Washington time (1st May).

That’s 8 hours (not 30 hours, dasdas). Out of which you have to take the time to transport the remains from Islamabad to Afghanistan by helicopter. That would take approximately 2 hours (230 miles at 115 mph… which is PUSHING IT).

Then what? Do the DNA work in Afghanistan in less than 6 hours. Of course, you’ve got to manage the speech, sort the media out. So let’s take another hour. At which point we have 5 hours TOPS to carry out the DNA test. Assuming that they can separate the sequence from the initial samples and you don’t have issues.

That’s not including the time getting the “sample” to the necessary lab.

UPDATE 2 – Wikileaks leaked email  suggests no burial at sea

6 March 2012

This is pure conjecture, albeit from somebody on the inside of the “security theatre”.

Fred Burton, vice president for intelligence at Stratfor, wrote to colleagues on May 2nd, the day Bin Laden was killed:

“Reportedly, we took the body with us. Thank goodness.”

Then at 5.51am, he followed it up with:

“Body bound for Dover, DE on CIA plane. Than [sic] onward to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Bethesda.”

It should be noted that by 3.10pm, he sent this email to George Friedman, Stratfor’s chief executive.

“Down and dirty done, He already sleeps with the fish…”

Very “Godfather”, if you ask me. Or is he just covering his backside? Who knows.

  1. Thank you! Why aren’t more people questioning this? AND why are there no pictures yet? Curiouser and curiouser.

    1. i asked this question on day 1!! before the lie they should really think about the lie to make it more beleivable – and didnt they destroy one helicopter which on the way back the other helicopter held the original crew plus the crew from the destroyed helicopter and lets not forget osamas “dead body” and i heard his son but dont know for sure – can that helicopter even hold that maney people so they can get all of the out

  2. I’m questioning it yet, I’m a truther and criminal investigation is what I started with in school! Thanks for posting so much info. here, I will have to post it!

  3. This is very interesting. Before the presidents statement last night I was flipping through all the major news networks listening to what everyone had to say about Osama Bin Laden’s death. One comment I heard was that he had been killed roughly a week ago and they were waiting on DNA test results to prove that indeed it was Bin Laden that had been killed. Now if this is true, how do you explain president Barack Obama’s statement shortly after the 4:00 minute mark of his speech last night, “Today, at my direction, the United states launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a fire fight, they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body.” This completely conflicts the report that he was actually killed a week ago. What better place to post this then on a forum stating DNA testing confirms Osama Bin Laden’s death. If Bin Laden was killed yesterday like Obama CLEARY stated in his speech….(watch it yourself on youtube)….then how could DNA testing have already been done to confirm his death. Ive read that DNA testing takes quite a while. Even if DNA testing took less than 24 hours how do we explain reports that he had been killed a week ago and they were just waiting on DNA results. It does not add u

    1. not just the dna – how the hell were the already writing book and had the covers already made up!! not even 16 hours later on the news. come on more than 1 book!! the mans still alive

  4. It’s not just the DNA tests that are suspicious. Why burial at sea when Abbottabad is north of Islamabad and 1186 km from the nearest coastline? (I measured it using Google Earth) Isn’t the normal thing for Muslims to be buried in a grave with their head pointing toward Mecca. Burial at sea achieves one thing though – there is no possibility of repeat DNA testing.

  5. Great job.. eight hours is doable. I happily accept the premise that burial at sea was so there would be no shrine and due to Saudi Arabia etc not wanting his body.

  6. Pakistan is what, +9 hours from DC time?
Obama spoke around 23:00 hours DC time?

So if the attack took place at 12:01am in Pakistan, then there was 23+9 = 30 hours to
perform the attack, cut the head from the body, analyze it, and dump the rest of the body in the ocean. Plenty of time.

  7. Burial at sea is not an Islamic practice, so that was misleading on the part of the administration. It beggars belief that he was killed, DNA’d and “buried at sea” over a 1000km distant within a few hours. If he was killed a few days earlier, than what was the raid on the premises that was twittered by the local resident. Who did they kill? Where are the photos and do they really think that snapshots of administration officials and brass supposedly watching the op live is evidence that would convince blind freddy? Look at the photos and poses…they’re not all looking at the same thing.

It’s not just bin Laden’s fictional corpse that smells fishy.

  8. Well at least we know the US government is lying about the DNA test. Pakistan is not going to have the technology to do a rush testing and it was already reported it was not done on the ship. I’m not a criminal investigator but I always wanted to be. I went into nursing instead, and guarantee every one in the medical field is questioning the DNA testing.

  9. The whole operation started Sunday at about 4 PM EST. The fight was described as lasting about 40 minutes. I guess they needed a bit of extra time to gather other documents and data. At 10 PM EST the President announced he will make a statement. So in 6 hours they were able to attack the compound win the fight return to the unit and run the DNA tests to confirm the identity of the body. Where were those tests taken knowing the location of the city is about 1000 miles from the shore? A helicopter may get 200 miles/hour so would need about 5-6 hours to get to one of the ships where they have the labs. The duration of the test would also add few more hours. We talk about only 6 hours period – between 4 PM and 10 PM. Again, during this time we had the fight going the return to the base (wherever the base was located) and the DNA test. If we add another 3 hours we at 1 AM the body was buried at sea somewhere over 1000 miles away from initial location. How can all these be done so fast even by the best trained people?

    1. You’re timings sound correct. Ongoing to put a full timeline with sources onto this story later today. But you are correct, it doesn’t appear to be enough time.

  10. Regardless of any other questions, the DNA test is not a problem. Ask any scientist, or look it up yourself, RFLP analysis is not that time or labor intensive. When you wait days for DNA testing, you are waiting in a queue, not waiting for the procedure.

DNA analysis is not the same as DNA sequencing. DNA sequencing is an intricate process that is costly and time consuming. Instead of doing this, you can do what is called RFLP(restrictrion fragment length polymorphism) analysis. This is simply a polymerase chain reaction(takes 2 hours on a tabletop machine that costs <$5000), followed by enzymatic digest and gel analysis. I performed this procedure in undergraduate science class. It's not that big of a deal to set up. They wouldn't need any experts or much space.

    1. Well, I am a scientist. But not not in this field. So I emailed a colleague on the subject of getting a valid “forensic” identification from DNA.. it was her answer that I’m forming my basis upon. Because, and lets face it.. you’d have to be able to prove in court that this was who they are saying it it. But I’ve posted your comment because I think all opinion on this is important.

    2. So you going to run your gel on a ship in the Arabian sea, with pitching waves? Your buffers will splash out, and samples will spill over the well heads, cross-contaminating things. This is so ridiculous, it makes me laugh. Never mind keeping a lab tech on board at all times, just in case. Your other alternative is that the tech lives in Afghanistan, just for entertainment. The Navy will have access to superior labs, but they’ll be back in the US. That’s where any true sample would have been sent.

  11. http://www.corbettreport.com/osama-bin-laden-pronounced-dead-for-the-ninth-time/

    The Corbett Report
    2 May, 2011

When Obama pronounced Osama Bin Laden dead in a televised announcement heard round the world last night, he was at least the ninth major head of state or high-ranking government official to have done so.

Given Bin Laden’s documented kidney problems and consequent need for dialysis, government officials, heads of state and counterterrorism experts have repeatedly opined that Osama Bin Laden has in fact been dead for some time. These assertions are based on Bin Laden’s failing health in late 2001 and visible signs of his deteriorating condition, as well as actual reports of his death from the same time frame.

In July of 2001, Osama Bin Laden was flown to the American Hospital in Dubai for kidney treatment. According to French intelligence sources, he was there met by the local CIA attache. When the agent bragged about his encounter to friends later, he was promptly recalled to Washington.

On the eve of September 11, Osama Bin Laden was staying in a Pakistani military hospital under the watchful eye of Pakistan’s ISI, the Pakistani equivalent of the CIA with deep ties to the American intelligence community.

In October 2001, Bin Laden appeared in a videotape wearing army fatigues and Islamic headdress, looking visibly pale and gaunt. In December of 2001, another videotape was released, this time showing a seriously ill Bin Laden who was seemingly unable to move his left arm.

Then on December 26, 2001, Fox News reported on a Pakistan Observer story that the Afghan Taliban had officially pronounced Osama Bin Laden dead earlier that month. According to the report, he was buried less than 24 hours later in an unmarked grave in accordance with Wahabbist Sunni practices.

What followed was a string of pronouncements from officials affirming what was already obvious: supposedly living in caves and bunkers in the mountainous pass between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Osama would have been deprived of the dialysis equipment that he required to live.

On January 18, 2002, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf announced quite bluntly: “I think now, frankly, he is dead.”

On July 17, 2002, the then-head of counterterrorism at the FBI, Dale Watson, told a conference of law enforcement officials that “I

Osama Bin Laden in December 2001
personally think he [Bin Laden] is probably not with us anymore,” before carefully adding that “I have no evidence to support that.”

In October 2002, Afghan President Hamid Karzai told CNN that “I would come to believe that [Bin Laden] probably is dead.”

In November 2005, Senator Harry Reid revealed that he was told Osama may have died in the Pakistani earthquake of October that year.

In September 2006, French intelligence leaked a report suggesting Osama had died in Pakistan.

On November 2, 2007, former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto told Al-Jazeera’s David Frost that Omar Sheikh had killed Osama Bin Laden.

In March 2009, former US foreign intelligence officer and professor of international relations at Boston University Angelo Codevilla stated: “All the evidence suggests Elvis Presley is more alive today than Osama Bin Laden.”

In May 2009, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari confirmed that his “counterparts in the American intelligence agencies” hadn’t heard anything from Bin Laden in seven years and confirmed “I don’t think he’s alive.”

Now in 2011, President Obama has added himself to the mix of people in positions of authority who have pronounced Osama Bin Laden dead. Some might charge that none of the previous reports had any credibility, but as it is now emerging that Osama’s body was buried at sea less than 12 hours after his death with no opportunity for any independent corroboration of his identity, the same question of credibility has to be leveled at this latest charge. To this point, the only evidence we have been provided that Osama Bin Laden was killed yesterday are some images on tv of a burning compound and the word of the man currently occupying the oval office.

But given that an informed consensus has formed around the opinion that Bin Laden died long ago due to kidney failure, will the people of America hold their President to the highest standard in presenting evidence that the person killed was actually Osama Bin Laden, and that he actually died in the way described, or will this pronouncement go unquestioned like so many other deaths in the never ending war of terror?

  12. Robert – I think the hours are a little bit different, I’m talking about the time of the attack:
“”Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event),” this is what the local resident had twitted. 1 AM local is 4 PM EST. The raid started around 4 PM EST – there are 6 hours – including 40 minutes for the attack – few hours to return to the base in Afghanistan – 2 hours, 2-3 hours to run DNA tests…really hard to fit everything in such a short amount of time.

  13. The other thing that’s really puzzling me is that this all happened in quite an affluent neighbourhood. I know we’re not talking downtown NYC here, but in the 40 minutes or so that this took place, with all the gunfire, explosions, helicopter crashing etc, did nobody have a cell phone camera to capture any of this? I can’t imagine that no-one wouldn’t think to aim a cell phone in the direction of all the mayhem. Just look at YouTube, almost every incident is caught on video these days.

    1. It’s puzzling because you know better than to think it’s all mud huts and open sewers. Sorry to say that the majority believe just that. It’s a fair point. Incidentally, the helicopter didn’t crash it suffered “mechanical failure” and was blown up on purpose.

  14. This is really all seem a hollywood action film, not a touch to real world. A small contigent of USA army took action and killed a man in just half hour, then took her samples to USA or any other facility nearby, but it must be about 5 to 6 hours flight time from incident scence then just after 3 to 4 hours Obama announced Osama has killed but surely when Obama was announcing his death there was no certainity that he is actuulay killed. The only proof was his dead body but they have buried him under Sea, so all evidences vanished for ever. No body no prrof no further DNA tests. All this is fake, only one thing is enough to prrof it, they vanished his body in sea.

    1. Yes. When Katherine Bigalow makes her movie about OBL, she’ll have the A-team and Steven Seagal do it.

Not to make light of state sponsored murder. After all, no matter how bad a person he was; he still required a trial. Using executive privilege Obama circumvented the constitution (which he stood to defend). I digress.

Do you think the crapped out helicopter is still under warranty?

    2. What is like an action movie is to think the US government supported egyptian dictators who tortured innocent terror suspects(Rendition Canada/Google it) tortured and killed their own civilians. This is why many in Egypt do not like USA – we supported dictators to the tune of billions who imprisoned, killed & tortured their families(google it)

The CIA flew drone missions in Pakistan despite Pakistan commanding they slow down such operations. We accidentally killed hundreds of innocent civilians.(google it)

2 months before this a CIA official on the ground shot and killed 2 unarmed people in Pakistan in broad daylight(google it)

You know what is like an action film?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMgEc9Qds8M – watch that. Even if you do not like MSNBC google fox…… This was a staged event. It might have not been a “psyop” but it was no more than a photo OP – google it.

  15. First of all
Usama bin Laden died a peaceful death due to an untreated lung complication, the Pakistan Observer reported, citing a Taliban leader who allegedly attended the funeral of the Al Qaeda leader. [Fox News. December 26, 2001]
    http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/osama_dead.php

    To answer your question
To start with, instruct everyone partaking in the DNA test to avoid eating and drinking for at least half an hour prior to giving their sample to avoid any contamination of the sample that may negatively effect the testing. Depending on how long your particular choice of testing laboratory tends to take, you could be waiting anywhere from a number of days to a number of weeks for the results of the DNA test to arrive.

    What is possible
It is possible to have hair or other DNA, keep it on ice, and use it at a later date. If the USA is doing this then – they are using the Son’s to show that Pakistan is harboring terrorists. In politics we need a proven reason to pull foreign aid.

  16. Lets demand they release the results of the DNA tests rather than the photographs of a mutilated dead body that could be anyone.I heard that Osama used body doubles to evade detection.

    1. Well, nice idea. But unless we’ve a sample of our own for comparison; sadly pointless. Why would it be any more real than the photo of the President watching the assault lice… when we subsequently discover the feed went down “conveniently” when the assault began. Everyday some new goof is leaked out and has to be explained away. 8-(

  17. It is simply not credible that:

    1. They would kill the world’s most valuable intelligence asset when they could have captured him and interrogated him as they did with KSM.

    2. That the would dispose of the body without credible evidence that it was indeed osama’s body

  18. Pingback: Osama « shannon
    1. Just to make a little correction, that sort of DNA testing “can” be done under perfect laboratory conditions in about 8 hours. Not the phrase perfect.

  19. There are way too many inconsistencies.
Supposedly two men and Osama’s son were killed along with a woman. There were many children in the compound, yet no mention that some of those children might belong to those men killed and that the women (including the one that killed) are possibly their wives (The media has attributed the children and women to have likey been Osama’s).
All children and adults were apparently hand-bound for the Pakistani military. Why are there no photos being released by the Pakistanis’ excepting the empty compound, the burnt helicopter an some dubious bodies that appear to have been executed.
Also, if one looks at a world map, it’s obvious that the only way to reach the Arabian Sea from Afghanistan is through Iran (the choppers would have been shot down over Iran). Another route is 1000+ mi. over central Pakistan (in which case the Pakistan authorities are collaborating with this whole myth. They are denying any involvement). A third route is through India. The distance from Abootabad to India is not far, then straight south to the Arabian Sea (yet no mention of India in any reports.)
I suspect that the helicopter that supposedly had technical problems at the compound made a bad night landing and hit the outer wall of the compound with its tail end. Why is the tail section on the outside of the wall? while the rest was exploded likely by an air missile on the inside of the wall and disintegrated entirely? Who took the photos of the fires in teh compound that night?

…and look at this nonsense. Someone to blame for federal robberies of public coffers…

  20. Here is what is not credible, plausible or realistic; That President Obama and everyone advising him would risk his reelection on the possibility that such a ridiculously purposeless conspiracy might be found out and exposed.
Seriously…. What possible gain could their be?
Answer: None. There is NO MOTIVE!
Result: There is no possibility this is a fraud.

Now lets get back to this moon landing thing.

    1. Well, it’s an interesting comment, if a little undermined by your parting statement. But you’ve got to admit the timing was helpful for the intelligence budget. Plus the basic facts of the operation are in constant flux, how can this be?

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to question what’s clearly something very suspicious. Or are we blindly following what we are told?

  21. El Baerta,

Do you remember te Gulf war? The stagwd babies and incubator lie about Iraq?

The staged events concerning Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman ? The supposed weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Do you remember the fake news reporting where the people in the studio pretended to be somewhere in the middle east. I don’t.recall if this was the gulf war or if CNN was involved. You can look the video up on YouTube.

I also like how the anthrax attack was blamed on al qaeda and we latwr found that it came from a lab in America.

    1. Yes, I linked to a BBC story covering it. Unfortunately it requires a very sterile laboratory. I got additional details from the head of forensics. The fact is that its hardly any time, even using the high tech chip approach. Incidentally, it wasn’t approved for admission as evidence in court.

  22. I remember questioning the validity of DNA testing so quickly, it all seemed fake to me. I remember watching a news briefing where a reporter asked them how could you do DNA tesing within 24 hours, and at that time the representative of the military said to the reporter that they had a newer state of the art DNA testing equipment on board the ship at sea. Right then I knew the whole situation smelled very phoney. Does anyone else out there remember when the media relations fellow for the military said this. Or what was said in response to how they did it so quickly, does anyone remember when they said they had DNA testing equipment on the ship, or am I the only one who remembers this fact. I am glad to stumble across this page because this has always been in the back of my mind for years. Its said that 98 percent of society just believes everything the government and media feeds us, without questioning it at all !!
