I want to create a new section in my blog called “Celebrity Bun Fight”, but I can’t be bothered.
Which is pretty much how I feel about this story in the Telegraph about Ben Fogle suggesting that Sean Penn should be fed to crocodiles. What’s most surprising at the outburst from Ben squeaky-clean, “Bear Grylls”-light Fogle, is that it seems so absolutely unfounded had he actually bothered to listen to the full speech Sean Penn put out. You’ll need to go to the Telegraph article I linked above.
Ben Fogle incidentally, is the guy who once asked a Zoo keeper “Do tortoises leave their shells?” and had to have an operation after he got a jelly bean stuck in his throat. Apparently his Tussard’s waxwork is smarter
Now don’t me wrong. I’m not saying that I think Sean Penn is wonderful and he’s an acting God. But he rather does have a point that the “resources” of the Falklands should be shared. Lets be absolutely honest here, the Falklands does NOT form part of the British Isles. In fact, it’s not even in the same hemisphere!
Incidentally, the “resources” Penn’s talking about is the oil and gas reserve that was “uncovered” in the last few years. Although people who lived though the 1982 war will have to wonder if “Sovereignty” really was Mrs Thatchers true motivation. Especially after recent stories of natural oil leakage leading to the discovery. Incidentally, there appears to be at least 700 million barrels of oil off the coast of the Falklands and this has got both Argentina and the UK on the “sabre rattling” course again.
But lets be honest, this isn’t about Sovereignty or borders at all. Essentially this is a fight between corporations over who gets to pull the oil out. Don’t be fooled by anything, even if Sean Penn is.
At present BHP Billiton is test drilling in various sites around the islands in order to map the size of the field and so forth. But once that work is complete, it’s going to be a straight fight as to who will get to pump the oil out. And it’s a fight between BP, Noble and Anadarko.
- BP has links to the UK Government and security services,
- Noble is currently looking to pump gas out of Isreal via Cypress and Greece and avoiding Syria. The gas pipeline currently ends of Homs anyway, it was to run into Turkey but “trouble” stopped it. Homs… now where have I heard that name before?
- Anadarko has links to the CIA.
